The Elizabeth Hursh Story Elizabeth Brown Hursh and her family were the first permanent settlers in Isabella County although the Chippewa Indian Tribe had hunted and summered in the area for hundreds of years. In February 1855 Elizabeth, her husband John, and their 6 children arrived in what is now Isabella County, Michigan. This booklet tells the story of their journey and life in Michigan. The story is written from interviews and Isabella County documents. Proceeds from this book will be put towards a permanent marker for Elizabeth Hursh's grave.
