Mission Moments

November 2013

The month of November holds the day of giving Thanks. We would like to take this moment to give thanks for our Senior Companion Volunteers who give the gift of time, the gift of compassion and the gift of themselves. 

A quote from Maya Angelo captures the essence of a Senior Companion Volunteer – “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” 

This quote is the spirit of the Senior Companion Program.  The effects of their kindness and helpfulness are many.


September 2013

In a recent article by Ellen Goodman, she discussed the drama faced by Nelson Mandela’s family surrounding his illness.  She talked about the many families and friends who deal with health crises every day without having the knowledge of what kind of care their loved ones would want if they were unable to voice their opinions.  For these reasons, Ms. Goodman and others helped found “The Conversation Project,” which is a national campaign to encourage conversations about our wishes for end-of-life care.
