How do I apply for a copy of a birth certificate?

The Isabella County Clerk only has birth certificates for individuals who were born in Isabella County.

Birth records are not public records and can only be obtained by the individual or the parents listed on the record of the individual. You may apply in person or through the mail. If by mail, the birth record(s) will be mailed to you in 3 to 5 business days. If in person, it will take about 5 to 10 minutes. Please provide the name, date of birth, place of birth, father's name, and mother's maiden name. There is a fee of $10.00 for the first certified copy and a $3.00 fee for each additional copy of the same record. All copies issued by this office are embossed with a "raised" seal.

You may download a form if you are mailing your request. To download a form visit our Forms Page. If you are mailing your request mail to Isabella County Clerk, 200 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858. Payment must be included. You may pay by check, certified check or money order. Please do not send cash through the mail.

How do I apply for a Marriage License?

• Both parties must be present to apply.
• One of the parties must have an Isabella County Address.
• Driver's License or pictured ID required.
• Both over 18 years of age.
• Birth Certificates required.
• If previously married, copies of judgment of divorce or death certificate.
  Filing Fee of $20.00.
• Once you apply for your license there is a three day waiting period, including weekends, before you can pick it up. The license is good for thirty days following the three day waiting period.
• If a waiver of the three day waiting period is needed: You must have a valid reason.
  The 3 days can be waived for a $20.00 fee.
• If you are planning on being married in Isabella County, but live in a different state, the fee is $30.00.
• Your license can be picked up between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Further instructions will be given with your license.
