The Commission on Aging Freedom Through Fitness
Program is an award winning program offered to Older Adults in
several locations throughout the Mt. Pleasant area. The
classes are designed to improve and maintain the participants
overall wellness by working on their flexibility, strength, muscular
endurance and cardiovascular health. Each class follows
a basic workout routine that includes: warm-up, cardiovascular
workout, upper body resistance work and cool down.
-
- Our general
aerobics exercise classes are held at the Isabella County Senior
Center, Winchester Tower Apartments, Riverview Apartments and
Dover Court Apartments. We also offer a water aerobics class
which is held in the Student Activities Center on the campus
of Central Michigan University.
-
- All classes
are led and supervised by qualified instructors who have a background
in Health Promotion, Physical Fitness and/or Exercise Science.
-
- Prior to participation
in the Freedom Through Fitness Program everyone is asked to complete
a brief physical activity questionnaire, a brief history form
and an informed consent and release form. Everyone will
also be asked to give an exercise clearance form to their family
physician in order to receive his/ or her permission to exercise.
-
- The Freedom
Through Fitness Exercise Program has been designed and is managed
by the Isabella County Commission on Aging. However the
program's success is due to the support and cooperation of many
community organizations. The funding for our exercise program
comes from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council. The space
needed to exercise is provided by Riverview, Dover Court and
Winchester Tower Apartments. As well as special arrangements
through Central Michigan University and their Student Activity
Center.
