A collaboration between Michigan State University Extension and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Michigan Department of Community Health bring this program to your area.   Breastfeeding is recognized as the best source of nutrition for infants.  This program is striving to achieve a goal of 75% breastfeeding initiative by the year 2010 in Michigan.

 Wahneita Shirely, Breastfeeding Initiative Peer Educator.

Wahneita has had 1^st hand knowledge of breastfeeding and is available to help with contact by telephone, home visit, hospital visit or at the WIC office.  Working through issues and teaching the ability to solve breastfeeding problems with basic knowledge and access to resources available in your community.  Wahneita is available to clients by pager after hours for problems that occur from 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Peer Educators are trained to provide information, education, encouragement and support to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Isabella County.
