Application and information specific to the 2011 CHARACTER COUNTS! Essay Contest will be added to this site in December.
Teachers can take advantage of the essay contest by:
- making the contest an assignment as part of the curriculum
- encouraging students to participate in the contest, or
- offering extra credit to students who participate in the contest.
Gift Certificates for $50 to the Student Book Exchange are given to each teacher who has at least 10 students participate. Student prizes include savings bonds for winning essays and certificates of recognition. Furthermore, local contest winners, students entered in the national contest and participating schools will be recognized in the Morning Sun. When students think and write about ethical concepts, everyone benefits!
With recent governmental emphasis on character education in schools and No Child Left Behind proficiency testing, the Coalition hopes teachers and schools use this contest to further infuse character and ethics in the classroom.
