Isabella County Parks and Recreation - Emerald Ash Borer Information

Help prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer....DO NOT MOVE FIREWOOD!

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has become a great problem in Michigan. Millions of trees have been killed in the southeast part of the state due to this small exotic beetle. At this time, the Emerald Ash Borer has been found in two areas in the southern part of Isabella County, so we are continuing to take many precautions to prevent it from spreading any further. According to the Department of Agriculture and other EAB experts, this pest is most likely spreading in areas from transporting firewood from one place to another.

So to help protect the healthy ash trees, we ask that the firewood you use at our parks is from local places in Isabella County or purchased at the campground. This is crucial to assist in the prevention of the spread of the borer. Some State campgrounds are not allowing any outside wood brought into their parks. After much discussion and review, it was decided to caution our park visitors on this problem and provide information for the best results.

For more information on the emerald ash borer visit the following websites: www.emeraldashborer.info, Michigan Department of Agriculture Emerald Ash Borer Web Site, or EAB County Quarantine Map.

Thank you for taking the time to review this important information and let's work together to prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. We all hope a remedy will be found to control and destroy this borer in the near future. We look forward to your visit this season at Coldwater, Herrick and/or Deerfield Parks.
