Passport & Fees Information

To obtain a U.S. Passport you must provide the following:

You must submit a completed application to the Register of Deeds Office. DO NOT sign the application until in the presence of a Passport Acceptance Agent at the Register of Deeds office.
Certified birth certificate or original naturalization certificate and a copy of the front and back of that certificate or a previous passport if over age 16.
Valid Identification (ex. Michigan Driver’s License) and a copy of the front and back of your I.D.
A 2 x 2 inch passport photo on a plain white background.

Passport Books are necessary for international travel and flights to Mexico or Canada:

All applicants must appear in person.
Age 16 and over $130.00Passport Book Fee. (Check or money order to U.S. Department of State.)
Age 15 and under $100.00 Passport Book Fee. (Check or money order to U.S. Department of State.)
All Applicants – $35.00 Execution Fee. (Cash or check made out to Register of Deeds.)
$60.00 Expedite Fee if passport is needed sooner than the processing time posted at www.travel.state.gov.
Note: To submit an application for a child under age 16, both parents or legal guardian (and the child) must appear with photo I.D.

Passport Cards are for land or sea travel to Mexico or Canada only:

All applicants must appear in person.
Age 16 and over $30.00 Passport Card Fee. (Check or money order to U.S. Department of State.)
Age 15 and under $15.00 Passport Card Fee. (Check or money order to U.S. Department of State.)
All Applicants – $35.00 Execution Fee. (Cash or check made out to Register of Deeds.)
$60.00 Expediting Fee if passport is needed sooner than the processing time posted at www.travel.state.gov.

To determine if you are eligible for renewal of a passport by mail, you must have or meet the following criteria:

Your most recent passport. (Issued on or after your 16th birthday and within past 15 years.)
A marriage certificate or court order if your name has changed.
Passport Fee of $130.00 (Check or money order to U.S. Department of State.)
A 2 x 2 inch passport photo on a white background.
If you are unable to provide any of the above, you cannot renew your passport by mail on your own. You must apply in person at the Register of Deeds Office.
