The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal traffic crash this morning at 7:50 am. The crash occurred on Leaton Rd. at Broomfield Rd. (Chippewa Township). A 2002 Mercury Villager driven by Mark Anthony Sura, 49 years old from Shepherd, MI was traveling south on Leaton Rd., ran a stop sign and ended up being struck on the driver’s side door by a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Robert Ivan Gates, 43 years old from Mt. Pleasant, MI. Robert Gates was traveling west on Broomfield Rd. at the time of the crash.
Mark Anthony Sura was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Gates was transported to McLaren Central Michigan by Mobile Medical Response (MMR). His injuries were not life-threatening.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff's Departtment.
