History of the Isabella County Sheriff Department

oldjail Isabella County's Sheriff Department is primarily responsible for three duties: the operation of the jail, service of court papers and to provide around the clock protection to detect and deter crime. The department also provides back-up assistance to other area agencies. The position of Sheriff or (“Reeve of the Shire") began in England and was first established in the year 992 AD, therefore it is the oldest law enforcement agency in the world.
