Public Defender’s Office
The Isabella County Public Defender’s Office was established in 2019 after the Michigan legislature created the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission (MIDC).
The Public Defender’s Office provides representation for all criminal defendants at their arraignment. After arraignment individuals have the option to either hire their own attorney or complete the Request for Court Appointed Attorney form and submit to the court. If it is determined by the Court that an individual qualifies for a public defender one will be appointed to represent them for the entirety of their court matter.
Mission Statement
The Isabella County Public Defender’s Office will defend the liberty, honor, and constitutional rights of the individuals, of all ages, whose cases have been entrusted to us. Through zealous advocacy, we strive not only to deliver excellence in our representation of every client, but also to stand with our clients and the community in working to create a more just, fair, and compassionate legal system.
Vision Statement
Provide a holistic approach in representing our clients and leaving them better off than we find them. This means we view our clients in the context of not just their charges but their life as a whole – including their mind, body, and social factors. A holistic representation of our clients means leveraging community services to address the whole client, who is entitled to respect and support as a member of our community.
